From a young age, Dr. Anis showed a deep love and interest in science and was always busy designing and completing Biology projects for school. At an early age Dr. Anis loved to visit the zoo and had a great fascination with animals. Throughout his childhood years he had a variety of animals: dogs, cats, fish, exotic birds, snakes, frogs, turtles, porcupines, Guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, mice, and many more! It was during his childhood when he would take care of these pets that Dr. Anis decided he wanted to pursue his life-long goal of becoming a veterinarian. He attended Cairo University School of Veterinary Medicine and obtained his Doctorate Degree in Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Youssef graduated from the Cairo University School of Veterinary Medicine. He Joined the American Medical Association Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG) program and completed the required practical examination at Oklahoma State University, obtaining his Doctorate Degree in Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Youssef in Licensed in both Maryland and Pennsylvania. He is a life member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Maryland Veterinary Medical Association, and the D.C. Academy of Veterinary Medicine. He enjoys every aspect of veterinary medicine but has a special interest in internal medicine and surgery. Dr. Youssef and his wife Mary, have three “two-legged” children: Yostina, his oldest daughter and his two sons Mark and Mathew, as well as two "four-legged" children: Nemo the giant cat and Simsim the tiny Yorkie.
Now retired, Dr. W. Robert Shortall, founder of Padonia Veterinary Hospital, grew up on a dairy and grain farm outside of Centerfield, Maryland. At the early age of 14, he was determined and committed to pursue a veterinary career path. He attending the University of Maryland and received his B.S. graduating Summa Cum Laude. Shortly after, he obtained his VMD degree from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Shortall served with the United States Army as a Captain, and later served two years as a Post Veterinarian in Fort Knox, Kentucky. In 1970 he founded and established the Padonia Animal Hospital at its current location of 9827 York Road, Cockeysville, Maryland. He was happily married for 47 years to his wife Sandra, who recently passed away in 2012. He has two children: his son Drew, an attorney, and daughter, a florist. He also has a granddaughter, Lindsey. In addition to devoting his life to the veterinary profession, Dr. Shortall has many interesting hobbies that include breeding and raising thoroughbred horses, coaching and counseling recreational basketball and indoor soccer, as well as gardening and reading. Dr. Shortall is a lifetime member of American Veterinary Medical Association, The Maryland Veterinary Medical Association, a former member of the Baltimore Veterinary Association, and a founding member of the Animal Emergency Center.
Donna has been working at Padonia Veterinary Hospital for the past 7 years. You can meet Donna if you are coming in for a morning appointment. Donna loves to spend her time with her 25 year-old son, Donald, and granddaughter Keely Aleese. Every year she goes to Daytona, and spends a lot of time in Ocean City. When Donna is not working at her full time job or at Padonia, she enjoys riding motorcycles, going dancing, and listening to her friends' bands.
Chelsea has been working with the hospital for the past 2 years. She started as the hospital manager about a year ago and continues as a vet tech as well. She completed four years at Stevenson University to receive her Bachelors of Science in Biology, and plans to eventually apply to the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech. She has one cat named Bruce. When she's not at the hospital, she is spending time with friends, cooking, and playing video games.
Kendra has worked at Padonia for the past seven months. She is currently studying at the Community College of Baltimore County in the hopes of acquiring her veterinary technician's license. She has a large four-legged family consisting of five cats and one dog, all of which she loves very dearly. Her feline friends go by Callie, Shadow, Sweetie, Zeus, and Ziggy, and her lone canine is named Axel. In her spare time when she's not pet-sitting, she likes to play guitar, draw, and read comic books.
